A lot of car owners think about car maintenance only until something breaks down. However, keeping your vehicle in top conditions is critical to your safety and the safety of other road users. While issues within your car vary in intensity, there are certain car repairs you should attend to right away. These include the following:
Oil Changes
The blood of your car engine is the oil and changing it routinely is important to ensure the longevity of your car’s life. The frequency of changing the oil depends on your driving habits, but it is usually every 3,000 to 7,000 miles or about three to six months. Once you reach 1,000 miles, check the oil of your car. Keep in mind that a lack of enough oil can cause your engine to wear out.
Brake Inspections
Your brake ensures that you can make a timely response to any unwanted situations on the road. Inspecting the brakes must be a part of your regular car service and maintenance to make sure it is dependable and safe to use. A brake inspection should be done at least once every year. No matter what vehicle you use, you must replace your break every 20,000 to 30,000 miles.
Tire Maintenance
Maintaining your tires properly can improve the steering, traction or a stopping of your vehicle. Your tire must have enough pressure based on the specifications of their manufacturers. Check out these specifications in the owner’s manual or on the door well of the driver’s door.
Over- or –underinflated tires can wear out faster than they should, negatively affecting fuel consumption. Also, these tires present a safety hazard. Tires must be rotated and balanced every 6,000 to 8,000 miles. The alignment must be checked at least once every year to avoid any issues with the suspension.
Fluid Check
Over time, your vehicle’s brake fluid, transmission fluid, and coolant can break down and become ineffective. Make sure you get these fluids checked and topped off whenever you go for an oil change. The transmission fluid should be flushed out every 50,000 miles, depending on how often you use your car and the specifications of your car’s manufacturer.
Following the manufacturer’s maintenance schedule is important to avoid losing your warranty coverage, poor fuel economy, and breakdowns. Getting your car checked by a licensed professional based on such schedule helps in detecting issues and fixing them before they become more serious and requires bigger repairs.
